The City of Topeka Development Services Division issues all contractor and trade licences for the city and runs the permit desk; licensing questions go to 785-368-3905. A straight door-for-door replacement in an existing opening generally does not need a permit; changing the opening, the header, structural work or a new opener circuit does. Addresses outside the city limits fall to Shawnee County Land Use and Development, or to the individual municipality for Silver Lake, Rossville and Auburn.
